setting sag video with Dave Moss video: www.onthethrottle.com/content/view/73/40/(1st pic)COLD TEAR(potential rebound tear) These markings are indications of the tire having too much air so that the outer skin cannot reach the required temperature. The tire is probably gaining only 3-4 pounds when it comes off the track. It can also indicate incorrect rebound adjustment in both front and rear tires, so tire pressure gain must be checked immediately after getting off the track. Gain should be 5-7lbs from cold to hot. (2nd pic)SHOCK SPRING TEARWhen the shock spring is too soft or too hard, the tire carcass is put under extreme duress to the point where the tire shreds and melts. This can be determined by measuring sag to see if the target number cannot be reached firstly, without considerably adding preload to the spring or secondly, if all the preload is off the spring. (3rd pic) SHOCK REBOUND TEARWhen the shock rebound adjustment is incorrectly set on D.O.T. tires, the tread pattern will show cupping on the leading portion of the pattern with a raised edge followed by a low spot immediately behind it. (4th pic)HOT TEARWhen the tire has too little air in it, the pressure gain from cold to hot will be in excess of 10 pounds. When this occurs the tire melts and leaves an angled pattern yet a solid edge on the outer area of the tire.

where the heck do you get those nice gifs Jon? they're very sexy. hehehe
anyway back to the topic, i did another trackday yesterday & this time i used an AIM laptimer, the last time i got my lap times measured was in Sept 2008 & it was 2m08s, with the new shock, fine tuning & lots of practice i managed a best time of 1m58s & this is still on regular Pilot Power tires. at least i know now that i won't be fighting for last place in the Novice class, i'm still off the podium finish by 10sec & these guys are running DOT race tires (Diablo Super Corsa, D211GP, Power One/Race & BT002).
in my quest for lower lap times i hit another wall & guess what it is, forks, specifically the fork springs, it's too soft for my weight, my travel indicator showns my forks are bottoming out during hard braking & cornering & my front end feels it's pushing (understeer) when i go faster on my entry speed so i had to get on the gas really soon to take the load off the forks.
i feel i can shave off more seconds from my best but the fork springs are hindering me, i did everything my riding coach said but it didn't work at all & when he saw my fork travel he now realized i wasn't kidding, he thought it was just the tires as i was lapping faster on his RVF400 race bike which i built & tuned for him.
so now i am on the hunt for a90kg/mm fork spring & WP suspension UK has one on sale for 63UKP & K-Tech also sells one already polished for 80UKP, i asked around for an HRC fork spring & it's $100 a piece which makes it $200 for a pair (ouch!) so i will just settle for any of the 2 above.
with an upgarded fork internals & lots of practice i might just get near 1m50s with Pilot Power tires, my riding coach is offering me to test the Power race tires sitting on his shelf but i'll take the offer only hwen i haave installed the correct springs at the least, i don't want to risk rashing up my precious ride in a front end washout on a high speed corner, i already had 2 close calls with the gravel that morning. LOL
will post pics & videos of my trackday in a couple of weeks, i'm going to try my hand at 400cc club racing, it really is fun & easy on the wallet.

I concur, get your fork internals done to suit you personally. In the mean time, try giving your front end some pre-load, it might help bit :/

In the mean time, try giving your front end some pre-load, it might help bit :/ there's only 1 line showing from my preload adjuster & i don't think it won't help very much as my compression adjuster is just 1/2 turn from full hard & i have already used a thicker 20wt fork oil to increase my damping specifically rebound. this time i will go the Ohlins route for my forks, i asked my friend in Washington state to buy me a pair of Ohlins 9.0N/mm fork springs from Solo Moto for $108 (free shipping) & i am looking at getting the Ohlins 20mm supersport fork valve kit from Hard racing for $319, do you guys know where else can we get the Ohlins fork valves cheaper? i know $319 is quite reasonable price for Ohlins stuff but we are on a tight budget after all & i can't afford the Ohlins cartridge kit yet but it's just a matter of time before i find one on ebay.

Looks like my left fork seal crapped out on me. Don't know if I should go ahead and get my internals done. Or just get the fork seals replaced.

Need to pull the forks, but I don't have a front triple tree stand. Anybody have one I can borrow. If not, I guess I will just use a jack and some padding.
